World Model United Nations (WorldMUN) is one of the biggest simulation conferences of the United Nations in the world. More than twenty years ago, in 1992, some Harvard students founded the WorldMUN. Since then every year students from all over the world gather together in order to discuss current issues in international politics and to find possible solutions.
At the conference every delegation represents the interests of another nation in different UN councils. With more than 2000 participants WorldMUN is a multicultural forum for innovative ideas and fruitful discussions. Students get to know other people from around the world and life-long friendships are being build. The aim is to develop an understanding for international relations, global decision finding processes, different cultures and another field of vision.
Since 2007/08 the LMU München has been sending a delegation to the WorldMUN. MUNAM e.V. supports every new delegation in order to stay successful.
During WorldMUN 2011 in Singapore the LMU delegation received 4 Harvard Diplomacy Awards for 6 students (two double-delegations received one and two single delegates). ‘Harvard Diplomacy Awards’ are given to the delegates who demonstrated strong preparation, excellent speaking skills, adherence to national policy, and exceptional abilities of compromise and negotiation (excellent demonstration of diplomatic skills), and they are awarded by the chairs of each committee. The number of awards on a committee varies by size. With the number of awards during WorldMUN in Singapore the LMU was awarded as one of the three best and most successful universities within Europe.
